The True Spirit of Cricket
Sir Donald Bradman quoted Lord Harris Letter to the times 2nd February 1931 as his answer when
asked by Ray Martin in his final television interview.
"How would you best describe the game of cricket?"
We adopted his answer but have slightly modified it
to represent our Club Values today
"You do well to love it, for it is more free from
anything sordid, anything dishonourable, than
any game in the world.
To play it keenly, honourably, generously,
self-sacrificingly, is a moral lesson in itself and
the classroom is God's air and sunshine.
Foster it, my brothers & sisters, so that it may attract all who can find the time to play it; protect it from
anything that would sully it, so that it be in
favour with all men & women."
